||The LSU Plastic & Reconstructive Microsurgical Fellowship will be one year in duration, beginning on July 1st and commencing on June 30th pending completion of all program requirements. The scope of the fellowship will include breast reconstruction (DIEP/PAP/LTP/GAP/stack flaps), head and neck reconstruction and also lower extremity reconstruction. The fellow is expected to be actively involved in patient care in the clinic, operating room, and hospital floors at the working level of a fully trained plastic surgeon. Under the supervision of the faculty surgeons, the fellow will be directly responsible for the primary post-operative management of the microvascular flap reconstructions. He or she will also work closely with the referring physicians in the overall definitive care of the patients. Supplementing the surgical experience, will be required weekly didactic lectures and teaching conferences. The trainee is expected to demonstrate improving microsurgical skills throughout the year and additional practice time in our microsurgery laboratory can be arranged as needed. As the trainee demonstrates increasing expertise in surgical technique, he or she will progressively advance in the level of surgical case participation. The trainee will also have the opportunity both in the clinic, seeing the preoperative patient consult, and also while presenting the patients at Case Conference, to develop microvascular surgery planning skills. The fellow will be required to undertake at least one research project, related to the training.
