||The Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is seeking a clinical research fellow to start July 1, 2018.
The ideal candidate should have completed at least 2-3 years of surgical residency (general surgery, plastic surgery, ENT) by July 1, 2018 in an ACGME accredited program, who would be taking time off for research and plans to return to complete his/her training. The applicant should have a strong clinical interest in reconstructive plastic surgery and outcome research. Previous research training/experience is preferred. A commitment for 2-3 years is required. Three letters of recommendation are required from current faculty members, including one from the program director indicating permission to take time off for research.
CHLA has been affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California since 1932. The Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery is one of the highest volume pediatric plastic surgery centers in the country, providing large amounts of data for a variety of multidisciplinary clinical projects. The successive candidate is expected to complete 15-20 clinical projects during his/her 2-3 years with our division. This encompasses protocol design, IRB submission, subject recruitment and consenting for prospective studies, research coordination for multi-site studies, supervision of medical students, data collection, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing with minimal supervision. All projects need to be submitted and presented at national and international meetings and successfully published in journals with high impact factors. Active collaboration with USC plastic surgery residents and involving medical students in research projects are strongly encouraged to be able to complete the required number of projects.
