Location: Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN
Description: Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) seeks a Director to lead our Burn Center. As a senior leader in the Section of Surgical Sciences, the successful candidate should possess extensive experience in burn and critical care and be eligible for an academic appointment at the level of associate or full professor.

The Vanderbilt Burn Center (VBC) offers world-class care to adults and children with thermal injury. Comprising 25 beds in a dedicated unit, VBC is a regional referral center for both adult and pediatric patients. With a catchment area of more than a 600-mile radius, VBC cares for 600 admissions annually. The Center is among the top 10 academic burn centers by volume, and is part of a designated American College of Surgeons (ACS) Level 1 Trauma Center.

The Director will be responsible for all adult and pediatric burn care at VUMC, leading a comprehensive team of physicians, nurses, therapists and staff. S/he will oversee all aspects of clinical practice, including team building, protocol development, and quality monitoring, and establish and sustain an environment needed to deliver the highest quality care for patients. The Director will advance and support their own research efforts as well as those of the team, and guide the education of fellows, residents, and medical students.

The successful candidate will articulate a compelling vision to further improve the already excellent services provided. S/he will be an outstanding clinician and leader, leading by collaboration and consensus. In particular, the new Director will recognize the important contributions of both general and plastic surgery for the comprehensive treatment of adults and children with burn injury. Candidates should have an M.D. degree with a minimum of 5 years of clinical/surgical experience with Board Certification in either General Surgery or Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and have completed a Burn Fellowship. Board certification in Critical Care is preferred. In the first year, the new Director will move the VBC toward American Burn Association verification, modernizing protocols, maintaining a robust quality program, and enhancing the Burn fellowship (non-ACGME) and resident training.
