|Description:||UAB Plastic Surgery is seeking a faculty member to join our practice at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. There is opportunity to pursue the Tenure track. This position will help develop a hand fellowship training program and will be located at both the Birmingham Veterans Administration Medical Center and UAB Hospital and Health System facilities.
The position will have clinical duties in the areas of elective hand surgery, including endoscopy, microsurgery and general plastic surgical reconstruction. Duties also include directing a hand fellowship program, leading the hand surgery program at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, developing a congenital hand reconstruction program at Children's of Alabama, as well as teaching plastic surgery residents and medical students in the clinical and didactic settings. Opportunities exist to pursue clinical-based and health services research.
UAB Hospital is a part of the UAB Health System, which also includes The Kirklin Clinic, Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital, UAB Highlands, and several other facilities. UAB Hospital, has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 18 consecutive years and also serves as a major center for clinical research. The Birmingham VA Medical Center is a 313-bed acute tertiary care facility located within the UAB Campus. Children's of Alabama is the 10th-busiest children's hospital in the nation with 275 licensed beds, and is also located within the UAB Campus.
Applicants will need to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, and be committed to ongoing performance improvement. Evidence of clinical competence and competence in clinical and didactic teaching is expected. Dedication to enhancing a diverse workforce and academic environment is vital. Required qualifications include an M.D., board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, CAQ or eligibility in Hand Surgery and the ability to obtain an Alabama State Medical License.
