Veterans Administration Medical Center – New Mexico

The Division of Plastic, Hand and Burn Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University and the VAMC New Mexico are recruiting an academic plastic surgeon faculty member. This joint recruitment is 6/8 VAMC and 2/8 UNM School of Medicine. The successful recruit will be versed in general adult reconstructive plastics surgery with a record of academic productivity and publications. The VAMC and UNMH see patients who are in need of treatment of diseases of the skin, hand, trunk and maxillofacial structures. It is anticipated the successful recruit will be the Chief of Plastic Surgery at the VAMC.

The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is the principal teaching hospital of the UNM School of Medicine and the state's only Level 1 Trauma center. The VAMC New Mexico is the primary VA referral center for the entire state of New Mexico and attracts VA patients from neighboring states as well.

Shared call coverage is provided by 4 board-certified UNM faculty plastic surgeons, with the support of specialized services provided by our advanced practice providers. We have an RRC approved Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency with 6 full time residents.

This faculty position is being recruited at Assistant, Associate or full Professor Rank.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board certified/eligible in Plastic Surgery
  • Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (or Canadian equivalent)
  • Experience in General Adult Reconstructive Plastic Surgery
  • Must have demonstrated academic productivity and publications
  • Experience in clinical research
  • Experience in Clinical Education
