|Description:||The UAB CMF, Microvascular, and Neuroplastic Reconstructive Fellow will have a unique opportunity to learn very specialized techniques in order to tackle the most difficult of reconstructive situations including trauma, tumor extirpation, vascular disease, and congenital malformations. The expectation is that by the end of the fellowship they would have a masterful understanding of the uses of Virtual Surgical Planning and custom guides and hardware in the treatment of complex problems that frequently blend the areas of craniofacial surgery and microsurgery. There will be opportunities to perform functional muscle transfers for facial reanimation. By the end of the year they will be facile and independently capable of transferring both conventional workhorse flaps and perforator flaps to solve an abundance of problems Including frontal sinus and skull base. There will also be opportunities to engage in super microsurgery, lymphatic surgery, transgender surgery, and pediatric plastic surgery.
The fellow may be granted independent operative privileges and the ability to take call.
Clinical research is integrated into the fellowship with many students and residents available for mentoring. The program expects the fellow to prepare manuscripts for publication and will support travel to present research at national and regional meetings.
Candidates must have completed an ACGME accredited residency in plastic surgery and be board eligible or certified. Verification that the applicant is legally authorized to work in the US will be required.
