|Institution:||Brigham and Women's Hospital|
|Description:||The Stepping Strong Plastic Surgery Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, is a 1-year fellowship integrated into the existing Brigham and Women"™s Hospital Orthopedic Harvard Hand/Upper Extremity Fellowship. It is designed to train a hand and reconstructive surgeon from an accredited plastic surgery training program. The majority of fellowship time is spent at Brigham and Women"™s and Children"™s Hospital and their satellite locations including: Children's Hospital Waltham, BWH Foxborough and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital.
The fellowship period is twelve months commencing August 1, 2021. The fellowship is oriented toward those wishing to make a significant commitment to treatment of problems of the hand and upper extremity reconstruction. Lower extremity reconstruction will also be emphasized.
The staff believes that a good fellowship experience requires both supervision and independence. Initially, the fellows are closely supervised, with faculty assistance in all operative situations. As the fellows"™ experience and knowledge increases they are given greater independence, but with a faculty member available for consultation at all times. This approach has resulted in excellent patient care, an outstanding educational experience, and camaraderie among all members of the service.
Candidates must complete an ACGME credited plastic surgery residency and be board eligible or certified in plastic surgery. Verification that the selected applicant is legally authorized to work in United States will be required upon higher. Applications for August 2020 should include CV medical school transcripts, current and former program director's recommendations, in-service exam scores, other letters of reference and a personal statement. Interviews will be offered in May and June 2020.
